Ingredients You’ll Need

For the Ground Beef Gravy

  • 1 pound ground beef

  • 1 medium onion, diced

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

  • 2 cups beef broth

  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • 1 teaspoon thyme (optional)

  • 1 cup frozen peas and carrots (optional)

For the Mashed Potatoes

  • 2 pounds potatoes, peeled and quartered

  • 1/2 cup milk

  • 1/4 cup butter

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

How to Make the Mashed Potatoes

Step 1: Boil the Potatoes

Place the peeled and quartered potatoes into a large pot. Cover with water, bring to a boil, then reduce heat slightly. Cook for 15–20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and easily pierced with a fork.

Step 2: Mash and Season

Drain the potatoes, then return them to the pot. Add milk and butter, then mash until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Cover and keep warm while preparing the gravy.
